smashscrap.ca Ltd (“SMASH”, “we”, “our” or “us”) is the data controller responsible for the personal information collected through this website. SMASH acts as a facilitator connecting you with independent recycling partners and is not a party to any transaction between you and a recycler. We are committed to protecting your privacy in compliance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, US state privacy laws.

This policy applies to all public websites owned and operated by smashscrap.ca Ltd.

1. Information We Collect

When you submit a form on this site, we collect:

  • Contact Information: Name, phone number, email address.
  • Vehicle Information: VIN, year, make, model, trim, mileage, condition, and related details.
  • Scrap Material Information: Types of scrap, estimated weight, and preferences.
  • Location Information: Address for pickup or inspection purposes.
  • Photos: Images of vehicles or scrap materials you upload.
  • Technical Data: IP address, browser type, device information, and referring URL collected automatically through server logs.

2. Legal Basis and Consent

We collect and process your personal information based on your express consent, provided when you check the consent box and voluntarily submit a form on this website. Your consent covers the specific purposes described in Section 3 of this Policy.

  • Partner Recyclers: Independent auto recyclers and scrap yards in our network who handle vehicle pickup and processing. Only information relevant to your request is shared with the assigned partner. Once shared, that partner’s own privacy practices apply.
  • Service Providers: Third-party services that help us operate (hosting, analytics, VIN decoding). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information, use it only for purposes we specify, and maintain safeguards comparable to our own.
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, government investigation, or to protect our legal rights, safety, or property.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

5. SMS/Text Messaging Program

If you consent to receive SMS/text messages from us (by checking the SMS consent box on our forms), we may send service-related messages from 1-855-762-7474 (1-855-SMASH-74) or 343-337-6274 (343-33SMASH), including:

  • Quote follow-ups related to your request.
  • Scheduling and pickup coordination.
  • Customer care and support related to your request.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Consent is not a condition of purchase or service.

You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Reply HELP for assistance.

No mobile information, SMS consent data, or text messaging originator opt-in data will be shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. We may share information with service providers that help deliver SMS (e.g., messaging vendors, telecom providers) under appropriate restrictions.

6. Cross-Border Data Transfers

Our servers and some of our service providers are located in the United States. We periodically review our retention periods to ensure we only keep information as long as necessary. Identity documents may be deleted sooner once verification is complete.

You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us. Upon receiving a valid deletion request, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, unless retention is required by law.
